Many of us will experience some form of a dental emergency in our lifetime. Unfortunately, these often occur at the most inopportune times. Depending on the severity, this can be an overwhelming experience. On the other hand, sometimes it is harder to determine how urgent your situation is.

Since time can be a major factor in your treatment options, we want you to feel as prepared as possible when the moment strikes. At Flatrock Family Dentistry we feel it is important to help educate our patients on different examples of dental emergencies and share some tips that you can try at home.

What Is Considered A Dental Emergency?

Some examples of dental emergencies include trauma to the mouth, tooth or jaw, an infection such as an abscess or swelling, a toothache or jaw pain which can’t be managed with over-the-counter medications, bleeding that won’t stop or trouble breathing from dental trauma.

When Should I Call My Dentist?

If you experience any of the listed symptoms above, please call your dentist immediately. It is important to know that every situation will be different. If you ever have any discomfort or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call your dentist. Dr. Rouse and Dr. Khan are happy to evaluate your specific situation and determine a plan for your next steps.

Find An Emergency Dentist Near You.

Check with your dentist to see if they are available for emergency services. Many dentist offices are not available for after-hours dentistry. It is important to have a back-up plan in case your dentist is not able to assist you in a dental emergency.

At Flatrock Family Dentistry we offer emergency dentistry services to Greenville, Mauldin, Greer, Simpsonville and the surrounding Upstate South Carolina communities. If you have a dental emergency after regular business hours, our answering machine will direct you to our emergency line. We are always here to help ease your pain and protect your smile.
